Bertelsmann Foundation RANGE Forecasting Internship 2023

The Bertelsmann Foundation is accepting applications for a paid summer internship working with the transatlantic team on the RANGE crowdsourced forecasting platform.


What is RANGE?

RANGE (Rethinking Assumptions in a New Geostrategic Environment) is a crowdsourced forecasting platform focused on geopolitics and the transatlantic relationship. The forecasts, generated by a community of transatlantic experts, experienced policymakers, and the informed public, are being curated by RANGE as a new source of input for analysis, publications, and elevating the public discourse. RANGE is a key part of the Bertelsmann Foundation & Bertelsmann Stiftung’s work to bring accurate, credible, and forward-looking insights to governments and the public on both sides of the Atlantic. Qualifications

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited academic institution in the United States.
  • Applicants must have participated in the RANGE college forecasting tournament running from January 23 - April 28, 2023 to be eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must submit a current resume/CV
  • Application deadline: April 1, 2023

Responsibilities and Objectives

  • Learn about crowdsourced forecasting and the science behind becoming a more accurate forecaster through forecasting training from BFNA and Cultivate Labs.
  • Participate in forecasting question decomposition exercises and help formulate new questions for the RANGE platform.
  • Assist with the planning of forecasting events and information sessions with universities, think tanks, and civil society organizations in the U.S.
  • Help grow and sustain the RANGE network of forecasters through online outreach and engagement.
  • Learn from Bertelsmann Foundation staff about transatlantic issues and different ways of presenting research, from written publications to animations and documentary films.

Benefits and Terms

The Bertelsmann Foundation will provide a stipend of $1,800 per month.

Please note that a successful applicant must:

  • work 17 hours per week
  • be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • reside in Washington, D.C., Maryland, or Virginia for the duration of the internship
  • work in-person from the Bertelsmann Foundation office for the duration of the internship
  • be responsible for travel, accommodation, applicable taxes, and all other living expenses for the duration of the internship
